My name is Kegan Prentice and I’m a born and raised Hoosier. I graduated in 2017 from Trinity Lutheran High School in Seymour, Indiana. I recently graduated cum laude from the University of Indianapolis with a BA in Political Science. Future education plans include attending Indiana University McKinney School of Law in the fall of 2020.
I became, like many other young Americans, immersed in politics during the 2016 election. Politics was something that I was always interested in, but this interest peaked in 2016. Attending a Lutheran school, it is not hard to imagine that many of us students were fans of now President Donald J Trump. There was an energy among young Republican such as myself after the election of President Trump. This election was the spring board to my life in Indiana politics.
In the past three years, I have had the privilege to work in various roles in the Indiana political world. I first began as a political intern for the Luke Messer for Senate campaign. Representative Messer, from Indiana’s 6th Congressional district, ended up losing to Mike Braun in the Republican primary. I then became a political intern for the Indiana Republican Party. I was in this role through the midterm election until December of 2018. I then had a quick stint with a legislative tracking firm, Hannah News Service, during the 2019 Indiana Legislative Session. I then worked during the 2019 municipal elections for the Marion County Republican Party as a political intern. I will be interning with the Indiana Senate Republicans during the 2020 Indiana Legislative Session.
I am starting this blog to give my political opinions on current political events happening in Indiana and throughout the United States. I have had political experience both in education and work that has given me the skills necessary to critically examine political events. I identify myself with four specific labels. I’m a Lutheran, American, Conservative, and a Republican. These labels help to influence my values and policy perspectives. I believe young voices that have opinions such as mine are seldom heard and need to be taken into account. This blog will contain posts on what I believe to be the top current political events in both Indiana and the United States and will be accompanied by Pawlitic posts by Peyton Rhodes.
I hope that there will be many that read these posts and we can go on to have a civil discussion on the topics discussed. God Bless!
